We are looking for foster homes in Aberdeenshire for two of our larger dogs who are currently boarding at Drums of Park Kennels near Cornhill, Banff and Garromuir Kennels near Huntly. These dogs are also available to adopt to homes throughout Scotland. See their individual pages under Available Dogs.
*At present we are only considering foster homes in Aberdeenshire and Moray*
Sahara
First up is Sahara, who is a desert dog cross breed and is currently in residential boarding at Drums of Park Kennels near Cornhill, Banff,
She is a stunning big dog with a lovely presence and she is just under 3 years old. Sahara is energetic with an alert personality. She loves engagement, enjoys routine, and forms strong bonds with the people she trusts.
Rescued from Saudi Arabia as a puppy, Sahara has spent much of her life in kennels and is still learning about home life as she is quite institutionalised. She has completed residential training in Scotland, where she made excellent progress and learned to thrive with structure and clear guidance.
She is food-motivated, responds very well to positive reinforcement, and would do best in an experienced home with adults only or possibly with older children. Sahara may be happiest as the only dog.
Fostering for Sahara would be a separate process to our normal adoptions and comprehensively discussed with a potential foster on application.
Sahara's trainer reports would be available to view privately as part of any application to foster her.
Sahara is also available for adoption on her individual page in our Available Dogs section. She will be available for collection in north Aberdeenshire to the right foster or permanent home.
If you think you can offer a foster home to Sahara please get in touch through our usual channels: sandtosofa@gmail.com or Whatsapp +447774 804254 (Nadia) or +447359 833660 (Steve)

Zico
Zico was originally adopted from us by a family in Saudi Arabia and was a happy, friendly, outgoing dog. His family then moved to Dubai and things rapidly changed for poor Zico. He developed a fear and nervousness around men, he became withdrawn, was scared of cars or vehicles in general, he stopped wanting to go for walks. Our rescue back up came into play and we brought him to Scotland.
When Zico arrived in Scotland he was placed in long term boarding with Zowie and Sean at Drums of Park Kennels. Their patience and understanding gave Zico a chance to show what a fabulous boy he was before, and still can be.
Zico's next chapter has already begun. He has been in a residential training programme at Garromuir Kennels in Aberdeenshire and this is what his trainer has top say about him now:
"Zico is a Saluki/Labrador cross 3 years old
He was brought to Scotland from Saudi Arabia by the Charity Sand to Sofa. Although Zico has not had an ideal start in life his good nature has endured. Following on from a brief behavioural program, he is now ready for his forever home.
Zico is an alert, affectionate, happy dog who is reasonably competent with basic obedience disciplines. He mixes well with people and other dogs. Zico's new owners would need to be competent leaders who are able to primarily demonstrate dominant, but never harsh, control."
There would be support and advice available afterwards from Garromuir should it be required.
We would not consider Zico suitable for a home with children or other pets at this time.
Fostering for Zico would be a separate process to our normal adoptions and comprehensively discussed with a potential foster on application.
Zico's trainer reports would be available to view privately as part of any application to foster her.
